Early Career / Peer Mentorship
Having a mentor or many is important to succeed in any career. Healthcare is complicated, and there are often many paths to the same goal. A supportive mentor can make a big difference. Unfortunately, for people from marginalized backgrounds, this can seem impossible.

The Numbers:
5.7% of U.S. physicians identify as Black.
3.25% of Physician Assistant/Associate (PA) students identify as Black.
6.7% of Registered Nurses (RNs) identify as Black.
4.7% of Nurse Practitioners identify as Black.
...12% of the U.S. population identifies as Black alone.
No wonder many students of color find identifying a mentor difficult.

Dr. Watson is committed to doing her part to diversify healthcare by helping individuals from marginalized backgrounds enter health related careers and succeed when they get there. We need mentors along the entire journey.
